Summer can be a tough time for dogs. From fur coats to exposed paws, there are many things owners must monitor when temperatures rise. To help regulate your pup's temperature, here are four snacks we recommend feeding on a hot Summer's day!

Cucumbers - Cucumbers are a low-calorie and crunchy snack that most dogs love! One cup of cucumber contains only 16 calories when in comparison, a medium-sized Milk-Bone treat has 40 calories. Cucumbers also have a high water content, helping to both keep your pup hydrated and feeling full!

Watermelon - Similar to cucumbers in that this tasty fruit has high water content, 92% of watermelon is water. It is also lower in calories at 50 calories a cup and high in nutrients such as Vitamins A, B6, C, and Potassium.

Greek Yogurt - High in calcium and protein, a spoonful of plain, non-fat Greek yogurt can be a tasty snack for pups, especially on hot days! Greek yogurt has high concentrations of probiotics as well, making this snack great for your pup’s gut. When feeding greek yogurt though, make sure there are no added sweeteners and that it does not contain Xylitol which is toxic for dogs!

Blueberries - Blueberries are a tasty snack that most dogs love! They are high in antioxidants first and foremost, which means these berries can help boost cellular and molecular health and help your pup fight cancer! They are also low calorie, have high water concentration, and are high in Vitamin C and fiber. There have also been a number of studies showing that adding blueberries to your pup’s diet can help reduce brain aging!

As with all treats, these snacks should only be fed in moderation. Too much of anything can make your pup sick, especially if they are not used to eating it. Introduce these foods slowly and occasionally for best results and you will have one healthy, hydrated, and cool pup!
